What is SOC?
SOC is a metric we use to determine the strength of the competition in a market. A high SOC means that there are a lot of websites that are targeting that particular keyword phrase in particular. So it would be harder to break into the first page of google. SOC simply gives you an indication of the number of sites that are trying to rank for a particular phrase. Conversely, a low SOC means there are very few websites targeting that phrase so it should be easy to break into the first page of results in Google.
We don't publish the exact formula for SOC but it is comprised of three things:
inanchor count
inurl count
intitle count
The rational is that a website (or webpage) that is seriously optimizing for a keyword phrase will have backlinks with that phrase (inanchor) will have the phrase in the title tag and will have the phrase in the url.
